How the government spends your money

Look at the following chart, do you see anything out of whack? This is a macro look at federal spending. If you want to understand the perils of the direction in which America is heading this will guide you.

Fifty-eight percent of the federal budget is spent on the poor and elderly while only 3% is spent on education, science and medical research. In other words, we are more focused on the past and not on the future. Many of our leaders want to see more spending in the areas already consuming most of the budget.

We spend twice as much servicing the debt interest as we do on education and research or infrastructure. There is something seriously wrong here‼️‼️‼️‼️

  1. The chart can be a bit misleading if taken at face value. We do spend a significant amount nationwide on education and research but you wouldn’t know it looking at the chart. Most of the dollars spent on education comes from state budgets. Federal tax credits and expenditures which are actually spending through the tax code pay for Pell grants,HOPE credits and such, but won’t show up as spending on the chart. Same goes for research and development which is covered by tax credits.

You are correct about the amount that goes to service the debt which will only grow larger when interest rates inevitably rise and deficits increase the national debt.
