A good question, right❓This is a good article in the NYT, I suggest you read. The problem is they over think the question.
Obama lost the American voters because despite the wave of liberal propaganda and press, most Americans don’t believe in his ideology and while we mention ideology, that too is the problem; not only what it represents, but the fact his focus is not on getting things done through compromise and deals, but just on pushing his ideology come hell or high water.
Then there is his methodology which I believe is his worst flaw. From day one he and his legions have played the blame game and divide and conquer. Pick a topic and there was a ready scapegoat; the wealthy, employers, insurance companies, banks, a You Tube video and of course Republicans.
His strategy has attempted to destroy any semblance of personal responsibility and accountability and replace it with one form of forgiveness or another be it mortgages, student loans or simply paying for one’s birth control pill. His promises on health care are not in touch with reality. Even those millions who have benefited with new coverage are finding out the promise of affordability is illusive because the equation includes not only premiums, but out-of-pocket costs and limited access to providers.
Everyone deserves more as long as someone else is paying for it.
His foreign policy of restarts and accommodation and a naive belief in what others say has not gotten us very far… except gradually back in Iraq. His has lowered the overall standing and influence of the USA in favor of being a world team player. As anyone who ever worked in the real world knows, nothing of substance gets done with a committee.
Finally, there is leadership or lack thereof. He simply does not know how to lead or work with the opposition. He doesn’t know how to get things done except when he has all the marbles and ignores the other players. I blame this as much, if not more, on his advisors. They should take notice of the strategies of past leaders like Lincoln, Lyndon Johnson, Clinton, Kennedy and even the Roosevelts. Even if you disagree with their policies, they knew how lead, perhaps because that had experience before coming to office.
All the above is how Mr Obama lost the American people who may finally realize where the buck stops.
And then of course there is the JV team waiting on the sidelines with more, much more of the same ideology which once again relies on a message of oppression of the average person, scapegoating, lack of responsibility and naive promises.
Where is the uplifting message for all Americans, where are the messages of “ask not,” or “fear itself.” Where is the greatness of American? I fear it is buried in the halls of liberal academia.
In December 2012, 56 percent of Americans approved of President Obama’s leadership. About 40 percent disapproved.
Today, those numbers are almost precisely reversed, a fact that Democrats were made keenly aware of in the fall campaign and in the midterm elections.
“The public’s confidence is gone, and it doesn’t seem to be coming back,” says Ross Douthat at The New York Times.
So what happened?
Mr. Douthat offers not a unified theory but four “partial” ones: Republican intransigence, an incomplete economic recovery from the Great Recession, Obamacare and foreign policy crises.

In many respects politicians all lie. They nuance, distort or manipulate” the facts” to advance their own political agenda whether it be Bill Clinton who while wagging his finger insisted “i did not have sexual relations with that woman” or Bush 43 and company (often distorting by omission) who convinced the American public that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction.
And than there is the master of all political mendacity….Obama. I must say in my lifetime I have never experienced anything like this President. But the irony is there is no attempt (by him) to hide or mask his lies. He is openly and apparently confident that his lying is ok and will take America where he believes it needs to be. Precisely what you would expect from a doctrinaire, narcissistic , radical, leftist. So, the primary reason why most of the AMERICAN public has finally caught up with him and why he continues to leave more and more of the electorate behind is the simple fact that you can not truly lead from either end (right or left) of the political spectrum. That includes leftist(indeed) Stalinist ideology.When given the opportunity and the choice between democracy and tyranny most will choose the former over the latter.
