Republicans; do the right thing (and the smart thing)

If I was a Republican in Congress, I would want to put my party in the best light possible. I would pick my fights carefully. I would want to demonstrate to Americans an honest concern for average and struggling Americans.

Forget the game playing and the disingenuous arguments and …

raise the minimum wage!

Between their proposed budget and opposition to raising the minimum wage Republicans are demonstrating misalignment with the vast majority of Americans. Show a little common sense (in your own interest) please😜

Frankly, I view myself as a conservative person. I think there is something fundamentally wrong with the far left ideology as promoted by the Obamas, Warrens and Sanders of the political world, but something has to change. Republicans are out-of-touch and very short-sighted, their obstinance for the sake of opposition is getting us nowhere. Knock it off, please‼️

  1. Dick,
Up until about 25 years ago I would have aligned myself very much in your camp. I considered myself a slightly right of center Republican. That having been said somewhere in the late 80′ I started to notice a very pronounced change in the leadership of our corporate citizens. The sense of fairness to the employee was replaced by a strict concern only for the bottom line which by itself would not have been bad. That change however grew and grew and was evidenced by just about all of corporate America. So employees were no longer rewarded for the length of service but rather an all out attempt was made to weed out the even the marginally acceptable in favor of some, unknown, but lower paid replacement. This concern however was not just to the betterment of the corporation but always met by a new term PIPS. Here the incentive became a fatter reward for the folks with the scalpels and I don’t men the surgeon in our hospitals but rather the corporate mgmt. These folks under the auspice of trimming the fat always kept a bigger and bigger share for themselves. This led me to change my political views and I have seen this change in my perspective only widen with the succeeding years so now I am a rather far left leaning Democrat.

    1. That’s quite a transformation. However, the far left Democrats don’t seem to be much better. They talk a good and popular game, but lack workable solutions. We are fighting human nature on all sides and I fear that is what has changed the most.

  2. Um, there shouldn’t even be a minimum wage. I agree completely with the Tea Party it (that shouldn’t even exist) should not be raised. A conservative would be opposed to the minimum wage — you may not like Obama but you are not a conservative, IMHO.

    1. We have had a minimum wage since 1938 and while we can argue market forces and the need for workers will result in a fair minimum wage, we all know some workers will be taken advantage of. Regardless, after 77 years it’s a little late to argue against raising the minimum wage so why waste time on the issue. As I have said here before raising the minimum wage and it’s supposed benefits are overstated, but it’s very practical to raise it over a couple of years. There is ideology and then there is keeping your thumb on the pulse of society and reality.

    2. David, Wal-Mart, Target, Costco, IKEA, GAP et.al. disagree with your economic idiocy – As do a great number of states and cities across this nation which have all raised their minimum wage – only Teapublican idiots like you continue to deny economists and scientists – your posting is helpful to me, however, to understand how so many idiots get elected to Congress.

  3. You are absolutely right, Mr. Quinn. I’m watching everyday as the Teapublicans completely blow a wonderful opportunity and I’m loving it! They can’t help themselves because they are driven and outright owned by a force that can be best summarized as KKKochs.

    1. And who was the President in 1938? Oh, yes, it was a regressive socialist — that was a terrible era with a socialist in the White House that brought forth from the devil’s cauldron many freedom stealing laws and court decisions that still bind us today. I don’t care what the stupid democrats and socialists want — minimum wage, dead babies, immoral and disgusting sexuality, etc. THey are WRONG and IMMORAL.

And for the other readers, I am pleased to provide a service to you. I occasionally wonder how this country could have produced enough stupid people to vote for Obama (or Hillary Clinton).
