Who Threatens America Most? – The New York Times

Does this give you a warm and fuzzy feeling about our leadership in Washington?

The US and the West may have won the Cold War, but we lost the initiative and we haven’t won much lately and it’s getting worse. Putin is pushing, China is building up its navy and claiming territory and the Middle East is in chaos. Our President likes to say he ended two wars. What he means is he brought most of our troops home and cut the defense budget; the wars never ended and now are simply escalating in a different way.

The rush to fulfill campaign promises doesn’t seem like a good way to establish a long-term global security strategy. The world is a dangerous place and once again a handful of human beings are in a position to put us on the road to destruction.

In what order does the Obama administration rank the biggest external threats to America’s national security? The short answer: It depends on whom and which agency you ask.

Official opinion is all over the lot, a sign of a rapidly changing world, different bureaucratic priorities and confused thinking. Which raises this question: If officials cannot agree on what the most pressing threats are, how can they develop the right strategies and properly allocate resources?

  1. This is just much more of the same, warmed over Reich-wing diatribe. Attacks and criticisms with zero proffered alternative actions or solutions. You should be a Teapubikkkan Senator saying, “I don’t know what to do and I won’t do anything, but what the President is doing is all wrong”. Stick to healthcare and Social Security issues on your blog because, when it comes to politics and international affairs, you come across like a senile Ted Cruz watching Fauz Nuz.
