Captain announced he doesn’t know where we are headed, possibly Panama or Mexico.
I’m hoping it’s anywhere in the US.

If nobody on your ship has gotten sick during the weeks you have been cruising, you are better off there then in the greater New York City area. Unless your ship can dock in a little known port like Charleston, SC, stay on the ship. I made it home a week ago from a road trip to Walt Disney World. We were in Disney two weeks ago then travel to Alabama to see some friends and they had zero cases at the time. The scariest part of the trip was the Maryland House rest stop on I-95 last Sunday when you realized that people were mixing from all over the East coast in that building travelling to parts unknown. Some wearing mask and others wearing gloves with reports of shortages when we get home. The food court at the rest stop on I-95 is now closed in Delaware, so we were lucky. We were home two days when the governor started closing things in New Jersey. I live in South Jersey and cases are just starting to be reported. It will spread but due to limiting of gatherings, I think at a pace that the healthcare system can handle.
So in the meantime, enjoy being around people, we can’t.

I hope your travels end with you and your wife in a safe haven. Perhaps you are better off at sea for the foreseeable future although I can only imagine it must be frustrating.

I read your commentaries, mostly because I also retired in 2010 (from IBM). I have been in IT for my whole career. Investing was my second job during my career, and admittedly my hobby. Your recent comment about being approx 60% fixed assets like bonds tells me we are also on that same page. Instead of bonds, mine are annuities, in addition to a pension, and Social Security. The portfolio consists of dividend paying stocks, REITs, and bond CEFs. I take it, not a lot different than your own positions.
The reason I thought to write you a note is to commiserate about past decisions that now seem to be not such a smart thing to have done. Of all of the options we had to choose from, just a month or two ago, the only one that would have kept us out of trouble was sitting home in the family room, with our investments in 100% cash. Neither of us are even capable of that life.
So, enjoy the view, and let’s just keep blundering ahead. You write good thoughts.
