Many politician – mostly on the left – push for the legalization of marijuana and not only decriminalizing its use, but encouraging retail sales as a state revenue stream – build a new industry as the NJ Governor says. But police officers can only use it off duty and many lawmakers don’t want that allowed either. Why? It doesn’t have any negative impact on your ability to function does it❓🤔

I don’t like the idea of drivers cruising around while using and hopefully screening will keep bus operators, rail car operators and delivery drivers off the road while under the influence. I understand that usage became so common in the last 50 years that politicians decided to make bank by legalizing it. What I don’t understand is the need a lot of people feel for getting buzzed on some type of weed, drug, alcohol or whatever.

The schizophrenia is a real problem with chronic use. Alex Berenson’s book “tell your children “ provides the evidence. This condition is well known to psychologists. As a dentist I can mention the increase in decay and periodontal disease. However the biggest concern is an increase in oral cancer. No, not a benign drug.

Yes, we lost the war on drugs and marijuana just like alcohol. The difference is you can test when you are no longer under the influence of alcohol but not marijuana. New Jersey did people a disservice by legalizing it for recreational use. Marijuana is still illegal at the federal level. Even if it is legal, you still can’t drive trucks, forklifts, work in critical industries such as utilities, power plants, chemical industries, etc. These industries are required to do random and post accident drug testing by federal law.
Then there will be insurance workman’s comp coverage issues. Some companies may not wish to cover employees who are high on the job operating machinery. Some of the best paying jobs require two things; showing up everyday and being able to pass a drug test. The state government has now ensured that many users will not get those high paying jobs.
