Do you want to read something disgusting?

The following is from the last Social Security Trustee Report in August 2021. It was sent to Nancy Pelosi and Kamala Harris.

The Trustees recommend that lawmakers address the projected trust fund shortfalls in a timely way in order to phase in necessary changes gradually and give workers and beneficiaries time to adjust to them. Implementing changes sooner rather than later would allow more generations to share in the needed revenue increases or reductions in scheduled benefits. Social Security will play a critical role in the lives of 65million beneficiaries and 176 million covered workers and their families during 2021. With informed discussion, creative thinking, and timely legislative action, Social Security can continue to protect future generations.

The report was prepared on the behalf of and signed as follows:

As it has been for years, the report has been ignored and for over five years no public trustee has been appointed.

  1. May be it’s not being ignored.

I’m sure there are dozens of legislators who are very serious about SS reform, among other topics, but often a very few can block the whole process.* What can be done to avoid deadlock?

*Sometimes for the best! What can you do? Blame everyone?

  2. The U.S. Congress has long abdicated on “fiscal responsibility”, at least since the early 1980’s. Most members of both political parties are at fault. I bet their thinking is “So why start now”?

  3. It is also sad that the commissioner of Social Security is still “acting”. Once you find the correct and current SSA.GOV website of the SSA administration, you’ll find many people acting in positions or just vacant. If AARP and like groups wanted to do something, you would think they would be trying to get these positions filled. Unless they are fighting it because they want people who will expand Social Security instead of saving it.

I guess the politicans don’t want these filled because then they can’t promise the world if someone is there to counter their promises.
