This is my 80th Independence Day. Never in the past eighty years have I felt such concern for our Country.
We are divided, so torn apart by individuals and movements so intolerant of others?
We have lost focus on the whole and instead demand what we deserve, only what we perceive as valid in our little daily world.
Many Americans have become subject to and accepting of the rhetoric and propaganda being thrown around with little effort to uncover facts.
We just aren’t thinking.
We are aligned with individual politicians and parties pushing us to extremes.
Many of us are narrowly focused while ignoring the global nature of the world in which we live.
We have we lost …
“we the people”
“in order to form a more perfect union”
The United States of America?

America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

We have to realize that this world is corrupt, and this age is coming to an end very soon. Man has proved time and time again we are not able to fix even the simple problems without GOD’s help. As more and more people turn from the creator GOD, to go their own way, things will get even worse. But, remember that we have a Savior and forgiving GOD that is victorious over death and sin at the end of this age.

If you follow social commentary media or many propaganda “news” sites, it’s easy to think we are deeply divided. But a lot of people act in a civil and optimistic way towards others.

Hope your Fourth is turning out sunny and happy. Tomorrow is soon enough to ponder the problems of the Nation.

I share your concerns but I believe our country will find a way to overcome these challenges. Just in our life times , I think the divisions of the 1960’s were at least as serious as those of today. Also, Puerto Rican nationalists perched in the gallery of the House of Representatives actually shot five congressmen on the floor of the House in 1954- not exactly the same as Jan 6 but there are some similarities.
As Calvin Coolidge once said, “If you see ten troubles coming down the road, you can be sure that nine will run into the ditch before they reach you.” And, as of today, we have a 247 year record of overcoming those problems that don’t run into the ditch- that’s a pretty good track record. No guarantees, but I like our odds.

I like your optimism. I hope you are right. History is on your side so far, but eventually that also turns against societies.

We’ve survived our War Between the States, we will survive this current dilemma of political madness with God’s help.

I hope you are right, but even the Confederacy never made it to the steps of the Capital

President Lincoln was quietly watching Our American Cousin (trusting I have the name correct) at Ford’s Theater when a “armed” political enemy was in Washington. Sad events happen, however we learn and overcome.
Many proud citizens continue feeling positive regarding our freedoms and our families. Enjoy the 4th of July knowing our ancestors faced worse trials. We are mostly a Blessed People indeed
