They all lost

These candidates all conceded with dignity. They sought to bring the Country together and support the winner even while they disagreed with his policies. Their degree of sincerity may vary, but they sent an important message to the people. They understood the importance of bringing the Country together.

They recognized the importance of our Constitution and electoral process. In the face of defeat they put their Country first.

This is what Americans have expected to happen since our Country was founded. It is a our fundamental strength as a nation. It is democracy at work. It is what makes America great among nations.

  1. Actually, upon some investigation I did because of remembering things a bit differently, Al Gore did not concede gracefully and neither did Hillary Clinton. Both claimed for many months that they had legitimately won and that their victory was stolen from them.

    1. Wrong. Hillary made a concession speech right after the election was called. But a simple google search would have told you that. Plus no one trashed the capital and killed police officers and tried to hang the VP. Or tried to come up with their own fake electors or threatened state governors to ā€œcome up with the votesā€. Not even close.

In 2020, and in 2024, if you didn’t vote for Biden, you effectively voted Trump, for what it’s worth.

  4. A very large nerve was struck today. I’m late to the party but I don’t want to enter the back and forth but I would like to say that this country is not working anywhere near the level it could be. I see pictures of people lying on sidewalks and living on sidewalks almost daily. Guns are used in disagreements when it used to be common to throw a few punches. I can’t tell any difference in the infrastructure from one year to the next. The water mains still spring a leak regularly and the potholes need patching. I guess what I’m saying is you’re fired up over this guy and that guy when nothing really changes. The federal bureaucracy rolls on no matter who is Prez and the state governments pretty much the same. The poor are still around as Jesus said they always will be. We still spend lavishly on military armaments. Things just don’t seem to be right to me and there isn’t improvement from one administration to the next. I guess I’m saying there are no answers in either political party.

    1. Whether it’s Donald Trump encouraging rioters to overthrow the government on the afternoon of January 6, or Joe Biden hosting most public events in the afternoon, both sides have an afternoon problem

      1. I get your point but a group of unarmed people wandering through a building they didn’t have permission to enter is not overthrowing the government. I can recall Biden mentioning when the second amendment was brought up that guns can’t overthrow the government, we have the military or tanks or whatever. So even he doesn’t think the government was going to be overturned on Jan 6.

  5. While I think Biden is past his prime and his party ought to nominate someone else, Trump has proven himself to be unfit for office.

    1. Agreed, but… As in 2020, Biden had/has the best chance to beat Trump. IF Trump is not nominated, it’s a whole new ball game.
It’s bigger than us (U.S.) A Trump re-election would be a global crisis.

    1. There is an objective take. Did Clinton publicly concede? There was a fight over Bush election too and in the end there was a public concession by Gore. Now we have four years of ranting and raving, we have January 6 and today it still goes on and even worse he is getting up things for 2024 should he lose already planting the seeds by claiming interference. This goes on several times a day on his TruthSocial site. EVEN IF there were irregularities in the last election, a person of honor, with the best interests of the nation in mind would have conceded gracefully urged the people to come together and moved on in the best interest of the nation, not in his own best interests.

    3. Here’s the thing Bill. You will not see me supporting any politician or any party. I am not a Republican or Democrat. I am focused on the major issues we face as a country and a society and both parties have failed miserably in regard to many of those issues such as SS, Medicare, immigration, deficits and national debt. HOWEVER, as a person, as a suggested leader, I am very concerned about Donald Trump. He is a charlatan and outright liar which I have documented and which you can see for yourself simply by reading what he writes on his own site TruthSocial, his name calling, his attacks on the foundations of government. Nothing in his comments seek to address any issues. It’s all about attacking others and proclaiming his greatness. The instant he lost the election he sought to divide the nation and still does. He has no redeeming personal qualities and speaks in generalities and platitudes. The only hing I fear more than him are the people who are fooled.

      4. It’s too easy to dismiss valid criticisms when they come from a partisan. As you said, you are neither Democrat nor Republican, so your objective observations deserve an objective response. Getting angry with you for raising inconvenient truths, yet not offering any direct response to your criticisms, is how Trump would respond.

    1. Dick is right and you are wrong. Hillary conceded and there was a peaceful transfer of power, the last one in this great nation’s history. This is irrefutable. Incidentally, I was in the government for both transitions. The Trump administration actively tried to sabotage things for the incoming Biden administration which hurt our military readiness among other things. Just another example of the traitor that Trump is.

  8. Why don’t you take a look at the statistics for illegal border crossings and for oil production? It would take you two seconds to google it. And President Biden just left Vietnam with an agreement to help against Chinese aggression. Does it not bother you at all that you have been lied to?

  9. This country was at our best when Trump was our President. Low inflation, low unemployment across the board, a secure border, low gas prices, a world leader in exporting oil, and the big one (in my view) RESPECT from every other world leader. With senile Joe in the White House, none of the aforementioned is so. Putin would have never tried his Ukraine takeover if Trump was President. Xi would not be “saber-rattling” with Taiwan. And a recent report states that Biden has been “on vacation” 40% of his time since he took office. (Would that work for your employer when you were still employed?) I will take Trump over Biden or Harris any day, anytime. We are in DEEP kimchi!

    1. Here are some facts to consider, not to mention pre pandemic.

The economy lost 2.9 million jobs. The unemployment rate increased by 1.6 percentage points to 6.3%.
Paychecks grew faster than inflation. Average weekly earnings for all workers were up 8.7% after inflation.
After-tax corporate profits went up, and the stock market set new records. The S&P 500 index rose 67.8%.
The international trade deficit Trump promised to reduce went up. The U.S. trade deficit in goods and services in 2020 was the highest since 2008 and increased 40.5% from 2016.
The number of people lacking health insurance rose by 3 million.
The federal debt held by the public went up, from $14.4 trillion to $21.6 trillion.
Home prices rose 27.5%, and the homeownership rate increased 2.1 percentage points to 65.8%.
Illegal immigration increased. Apprehensions at the Southwest border rose 14.7% last year compared with 2016.
Coal production declined 26.5%, and coal-mining jobs dropped by 16.7%. Carbon emissions from energy consumption dropped 11.5%.
Handgun production rose 12.5% last year compared with 2016, setting a new record.
The murder rate last year rose to the highest level since 1997.
Trump filled one-third of the Supreme Court, nearly 30% of the appellate court seats and a quarter of District Court seats.

    2. Amazing how much more productive he has been than Trump despite his supposed ā€œsenilityā€. Literally the only major legislation that passed during the Trump administration was the tax cut. Although I personally am thankful for his sloth and incompetence, as it limited the amount of damage he could do.

      1. Again, facts don’t care about your feelings Malcontent. Trump had one major legislative accomplishment, tax cuts that mostly benefitted the wealthy. Biden has put together a string of achievements that rivals any modern president, with a record that includes the ambitious American Rescue Plan, a bipartisan infrastructure package, the historic Inflation Reduction Act, the CHIPS and Science Act, an expansion of veterans benefits in the PACT Act, the Respect for Marriage Act, the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act — the first major legislation to address gun violence in nearly three decades — and necessary reform of the Electoral Count Act.

      2. I don’t give credit to any so called accomplishment that added to the deficit and/or shifted costs. Actually, Trump tax cuts mostly benefited average tax payers, but at the price of higher deficits and were not justified any more than most of Biden stimulus.

      3. And Biden is responsible for the botched withdrawal of our armed forces from Afghanistan, the killing of the 13 Marines, Soldiers and Sailor during that withdrawal, followed by his complete disrespect to the Gold Star families of the fallen 13. Further, when he is going to East Palestine, OH? How come he is not going to be at any of the official 9/11 memorial services today in New York, the Pentagon, or Shanksville, PA. Oh, I forgot, he is memorializing the 9/11 tragedies in Alaska. Finally, his embarrassing press conference in Vietnam yesterday where he looked and acted confused, said he wanted to go to bed, and said the entire southern hemisphere was like a third world country!
