Charge‼️

It would appear Mr Trump is opposed to electric cars.

Donald J. Trump

@realDonaldTrump

“The all Electric Car is a disaster for both the United Auto Workers and the American Consumer. They will all be built in China and, they are too expensive, don’t go far enough, take too long to charge, and pose various dangers under certain atmospheric conditions. If this happens, the United Auto workers will be wiped out, along with all other auto workers in the United States. The all Electric Car policy is about as dumb as Open Borders and No Voter I.D. IT IS A COMPLETE AND TOTAL DISASTER!”

It’s true China is the largest maker of electric vehicles, mostly for domestic use, but also export. They make the Buick EV, a BMW model, about 50% of Teslas and others.

Why is that true, because they are cheaper to make and isn’t that what US consumers want, to pay less for the things we buy? They seem to have a high quality rating as well.

Isn’t that why the US imports over half a trillion dollars in goods from China each year?

Technically there is no such thing as a 100% US made car because they contain numerous components that are imported. Also, look around any parking lot and see what brands Americans are driving.

EVs currently have limited practicality. They do have limited range, they do take too long to charge. I wouldn’t want to drive one across the US, but that is in 2023. I have no doubt the technology will evolve just like gas run cars did. I hardly think the EV is a disaster.

There are problems to be solved, it will be decades before EVs dominate the car market. Today about 6% of cars are EVs. We have a long way to go.

Is that a reason to not strive for progress in transportation? I’m thinking that back in 1900 some guy in a horse and carriage passed a car broken down on the road and said, “I told you those things aren’t reliable. Plus oats are cheaper than gasoline any day.”

An all electric car policy is dump?
Who has an open border policy?

As far as auto workers go, that’s complicated. The last time the UAW sought and obtained strong job security in the face of competition, it ended in disaster for the legacy cost bloated industry. Now they are headed in that direction. Certainly understandable from workers perspective but not in the reality of a constantly changing competitive industry.

UAW leaders want to secure the union’s place in the dawning electric-vehicle age, and assure that unionized workers fill the dozens of new battery and EV assembly plants that are springing up from tracts of farmland in Tennessee, Indiana and elsewhere.

The auto industry already has a hourly labor cost $10 higher than Asian manufacturers.

  1. More populist BS from Mr Trump, always finding the lowest common denominator to appeal to. Next he will want to ban the internet or cell phones because they make people “woke”.

  2. … or maybe hydrogen will outpace EV development.

    Questions remain …
    * will the environmentalist support environmental impacts of lithium mining now we found mega tons in Nevada, * do EV’s self generate charging KW or do fossil plants, * is the administration supporting clean bulk nuclear generation (needed for wide spread adoption of EV), * is anyone developing solar panels for night time electric generation, * let’s see how NJ coast looks after wind farms are in place and all whales are dead … I guess we could burn blubber for generation (is that considered fossil or natural generation), * how many average Americans will buy/afford EV credits end, * you’re from the utility industry … how’s the investment in T&D infrastructure been in the last ten years?
