I hate the word “free”‼️

Medicare is not free, in fact at present it is not fully being paid for. Medicare for All would not be free and the last thing you want is to make people think anything is free – unless you are an unscrupulous politician of course.

How do they do that?

  1. I totally agree that _somebody_ has to pay for Medicare/Medicaid but in fact is IS free to _many_ people.

From the Tax Policy Center: An estimated 72.5 million households — 40% of total households — paid NO federal income taxes for tax year 2022. That share marks a very large decline from the 59.3% who paid no federal income taxes in 2020 and from the 56% in 2021, due to the reduced effects of the COVID shutdown.

Households that pay no federal income tax are unlikely to have paid any state income tax either.
