Nobody’s fault but Congress

For over twenty years the Social Security Trustees have urged lawmakers to address the coming shortfall in Social Security funding.

Here is one example from the 2015 report. Similar statements are made in earlier years and every year since.

2015

There is no excuse.

And now some politicians say we need to reduce benefits.

  1. Oh, you mean where President Biden is asking Congress to provide increased funding for the Border Patrol and amend the asylum laws, and the MAGA extremists in Congress are blocking it, only because it would hurt Trump’s election chances. That is the very definition of “destroy the country” so MAGA can save it. Most people can see right through the Republican hypocrisy on this one. Except Russian and Chinese state media, who strangely love it.

  2. There is an excuse. You pegged it.

“And now some politicians say we need to reduce benefits.”

Other politicians say we should increase them.

Many of their constituents are just as divided. And adamant.

  3. There is a tendency for a lot of politicians to lump SS/Medicare into the total spending crisis and many others that have different ideas on amending the program while adjusting taxes for it. No president since George W has thrown weight behind funding it. This is while a lot of other, less important stuff has been given priority. I personally think it is because a lot of them don’t understand the workings of the program and aren’t interested in learning.

You really are funny “G”–all we are saying is problems don’t get solved politically unless there is a crisis–Isn’t your guy running scared on immigration now that it is the # 1 problem facing his campaign? Why did his proposal come now when he could have done the same 3-years ago? Crisis time for the old guy and his campaign!
