How is Medicare doing?

In some areas not so good.

The March 2024 Report to the Congress: Medicare Payment Policy by MedPac outlines several issues that should be addressed by Congress. “Major overall” of Medicare Advantage the report says. Of course, there is no reason to think Congress will act anytime soon.

Medicare Advantage Plans, a popular option is costing taxpayers billions in unnecessary spending. Here is an excerpt from the latest report.

The Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) is an independent congressional agency established by the Balanced Budget Act of 1997 (P.L. 105-33) to advise the U.S. Congress on issues affecting the Medicare program. In addition to advising the Congress on payments to private health plans participating in Medicare and providers in Medicare’s traditional fee-for-service program, MedPAC provides information on access to care, quality of care, and other issues affecting Medicare.

  1. I always appreciate your statistically detailed information.  My family sure gets our money’s worth with the $174.70 standard monthly premium.  Why with that amount, I could buy THREE Trump bibles if I use the $5 coupon when you buy 3 at once.    For your info, after the Old Testament’s First Five Bible books (known by Donald as the Pat-a-Tush), HIS version has removed the objectional 7th, The Book of JUDGES, and replaced it with “3rd KINGS” just before Chronicles.

    1. What a deal!! maybe that’s why here is a financial problem much like SS–there really isn’t a free lunch although the politicians will buy votes with all kinds of schemes.

Of course nobody wants competition and Medicare Advantage competes with traditional Medicare so of course some folks, like our esteemed host, feel it should not exist (see Humble Dollar). One size fits all?

I have “A” which was “free” and that’s it–no Advantage–just my “work” policy and “A”–folks I know with traditional Medicare have done exceptionally well–folks I know with Advantage have no issues but, there are constraints.

Like most products–shop around–get various opinions–=the Humble Dollar essay a week ago was very good and one can assess what what works best for the individual.

    2. Love that comment edgebill! To be honest, I am pretty healthy and don’t need Medicare, but I sure want one of those Trump Bibles. I hope when he is elected again, this time for good, that he will send them out to every US household, so America can get back to God and Christianity the way that the Founding Fathers intended. Trump can finally put a stop this separation of religion and state nonsense!

      2. You know and I know, you’re nowhere near being in my league.  Church and State, united forever?  That’s precisely the opposite of the founding fathers.  Their problem was they NEVER conceived the extent of ignorance folks like you would develop  and you didn’t either.
