Will the world ever learn?

Where are we headed?

Isolationism, anti-immigration, nationalism, extreme division within nations, anti-globalization and anti-free trade, extremes both left and right, opposition to alternative energy, religious based hate.

Not only in the US, but much of Europe as well. We are not headed in a good direction. We are repeating the mistakes of the past.

We ignore facts and follow leaders who are expert at misinformation and propaganda designed to reinforce our fears and prejudices.

As much of the free world creates its own harm, others such as China gain power and form their own anti-democracy alliances.

This is not going to end well.
It’s like the 1920s and 1930s revisited.

  1. Anti-immigration? No, just isn’t so. Anti-illegal immigration? Yes. 80% of Americans are against no borders policy of the current administration? Hell YES!

According to a Pew survey, a sizable majority of Americans (78%) say the large number of migrants seeking to enter this country at the U.S.-Mexico border is either a crisis (45%) or a major problem (32%) – Pew Research Center survey, conducted Jan. 16-21, 2024, among 5,140 adults.

Likely worse, much worse today – so much so that President Biden finally had to admit his mistakes.

However, if you polled those same Americans, chances are that 80+% would welcome legal immigrants if they followed the rules – and had sponsors, wanted to become Americans, had skills and talents we need and were certain to be shipped back to their native land the minute they committed a felony. Yes, when it comes to legal immigrants, they commit fewer felonies than native born Americans. However, the jury is still out when it comes to illegal immigrants, who violated our laws when they crossed the border without permission.

The vast majority of Americans are not anti- legal immigration. Never were, never will be.

    1. That is not accurate IMO.

Saying the anti-immigration rhetoric is only against illegals is a (poor) excuse. Millions of Americans support a man who says they will taint our blood – nothing to do with legal status. Others accept the broad brush rhetoric from the same man they a criminals, murderers, rapists, drug lords and terrorists .

Many support mass deportation of 11 million illegal immigrants many who have been here decades and are productive, taxpaying residents, but they oppose methods to legal residents and citizenship.

Americans are, however, happy to accept their low cost labor picking vegetables, building houses, landscaping, roofing and more.

We should be working on a plan to vet and create a legal route for residence and eventually citizenship.

      1. Pew only reports their findings:  “…  A sizable majority of Americans (78%) say the large number of migrants seeking to enter this country at the U.S.-Mexico border is either a crisis (45%) or a major problem (32%), according to the Pew Research Center survey, conducted Jan. 16-21, 2024, among 5,140 adults. …”

What is inaccurate about that … in your opinion?

“Saying the anti-immigration rhetoric is only against illegals is a (poor) excuse.”

It is not an excuse. When the idiot Trump was in office, did he ever suggest mass deportation? Not that I am aware of. If he did, my mistake. Please share the quote – date and time. So, what changed? Obviously, it was the 10+MM surge of illegals at the border over the last three years – as encouraged by President Biden.

You tell me, why did we let in 56,000+ Chinese since October 1, 2023? What is that all about?

Obviously, you can’t have mass deportation of LEGAL aliens. So, yes, the dumb sh*t Trump is calling for mass deportation of ILLEGAL aliens.

You say, many are productive, taxpaying residents. How many of the 10+MM most recent illegal encounters are legally working and paying taxes? 0 nada, zero, none … The only way they can “legally” work is by illegal actions by the Biden Administration to grant group parole – which the law required be administered on an individual basis, by exception, and only in unusual circumstances.

In terms of rapists, murderers, etc. consider: Maddie Hines, Rachel Morin, Jocelyn Nungaray, Laken Riley, … In NYC, we also have the rape of a young girl in the park, and in Missouri, state troopers last week arrested five illegals accused of kidnapping a 14-year-old girl in Indiana. What do you recommend?

I’m not interested in accepting low cost labor from illegal aliens – at least not until everyone gets off the dole. Why do you believe we should have illegal employment of illegal aliens?

We have specific rules to vet and create a legal route for residence and if desired, eventually citizenship. For example, my wife and I and others in our church are “fostering” and welcoming two immigrants who are from Afghanistan, who left 10+ years ago, then spent couple years in a refugee camp in Iran, then another 6 years in a refugee camp in Turkey. They applied to come to America, went through the legal vetting process and arrived here LEGALLY just two years ago. He drives for Amazon, his mom is mostly dependent on her son.

There are legal means – it is long past time to enforce them.

      2. Recent reports out of Minnesota confirm that our DHS failed to effectively vet a known terrorist who came through our southern border where DHS likely paid for his transportation to Minnesota where he lived for 10 months before he came to others attention and was arrested. My understanding is that as many as 2 million illegal aliens who came through our southern border were provided paid transportation to the U.S. location of their choice.

FBI director Christopher Wray has warned that the United States is facing the highest risk of a terrorist attack in years in the aftermath of the October 7 Hamas atrocity in Israel. Wray warned the Senate Judiciary Committee that there are ‘blinking red lights everywhere’ when asked to assess the ‘threat matrix’ faced by the U.S.

And, of course, the threat was probably just as bad before October 7th – as it was on September 10th, 2001. We probably just don’t know what we don’t know. This doesn’t involve a “failure of imagination”

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Failure_of_imagination

        – just a failure from inaction.

      3. And yet, the 9/11 terrorists were here legally as were the Boston bombers one of whom passed our citizenship test. None of the mass school shootings were done by immigrants.

No doubt there are ongoing terrorist threats, even plots, but linking to illegal immigrate en mass seems a stretch.

  3. Why the doom and gloom, Mr. Quinn? President Biden by his performance last night inspired and renewed my confidence in his abilities to continue to lead the nation to nirvana. He gave such an inspirational and passionate performance that commanded the stage and mesmerized the audience! What can go wrong with him in firm command of this nation’s highest office???

  5. We will be fine in spite of the fear mongering. Would be better with better leadership as evidenced by last night’s performance by both candidates. Maybe one political party will now realize the truth of those who told them their candidate was physically and mentally challenged. Now you can believe your lying eyes.
