What do you think of this?

“Some (Trump) advisers have discussed the possibility of suspending the payroll taxes that fund Social Security and Medicare as a form of stimulus, which Mr. Trump attempted to do in 2020.

Like Mr. Trump’s plan to exempt Social Security benefits from income taxes, suspending payroll taxes could darken the already grim financial outlook for the retirement programs.

From New York Times article. 9-22-24

I know, it’s election pandering for votes, but it is also disgustingly irresponsible. I guess all politicians simply say what a uniformed populace wants to hear.

We need more stimulus?

  1. All of those old people voting for Trump will blame the Democrats for weakening Social Security and Medicare. Our country is in trouble because most people no longer engage in critical thought and analysis. On both sides of the aisle.

  2. What’s a reasonable potential voter to do? Follow multiple news sites and political ads daily to digest their propaganda demonizing the other party for major and trivia reasons? Tune it all off?

Quite frankly, as a registered independent, I’m either seriously thinking not voting or voting straight line Republican. Just my personal thinking. And unlike so-called celebrities telling people who to vote for, I will not advise you do the same.

  3. Yes they say anything to appeal to voters. Both sides are going full speed ahead on making offers that won’t work over time and this is the first time I can remember in a presidential election that this has been so blatant. My guess is that Trump figures he will not be out promised by the lefties and if I were the one running I would do the same thing. If the candidate down at the end of the block is promising free ice cream to everyone, you can’t stand around and promise fiscal responsibility.

  4. Gee–a pandering politician–I am shocked to hear that!! shocked–shocked–shocked!!

defund the cops to mollify the left wing lunatics’–that worked well didn’t it–no pandering there

blame Faux News for spreading disinformation about folks crossing the border by the millions–the loons on the left loved it until Abbott and DeSantis made them eat their words–don’t believe your lying eyes–red becomes purple then blue

let’s , by the stroke of a pen, erase thousands of dollars of debt for college loans so our left wing constituents can pass on their debt to the working stiffs–no, we are not pandering it’s just good common sense.

$25,000 tax credit to buy a home–that’s not pandering is it! Stop it!! Housing prices will be stimulated, but don’t say a word to young folks who can’t fit in now to a home.

I am not going to ban fracking no matter what I said in the past–yes we recently “paused” on our LNG leasing but, hey, fracking is fine–we love fossil fuels especially in PA at election time.

Guns–no pandering there–“I am a gun owner and any nanny getting close to Dougie gets shot”–I might have been in favor of gun confiscation in the past, but this is an election year and if you are going to pander now is the time–“and any of you MAGA folks bring up Willie Brown you’d better duck and cover.”

A pandering politician–a new and novel discovery!
