Wrong‼️
Misinformation about how the COLA is calculated will not go away.

The fact is the CPI-W used to determine the COLA measures the price change in over 200 items in the following categories:
- Food and beverages
- Housing
- Apparel
- Transportation
- Medical care
- Recreation
- Education and communication
- Other goods and services

I’m not surprised that people get it confused. We have inflation indexes out the wazoo as put out by the feds. We’ve also got a core inflation number that excludes food and energy prices that the fed considers a better indicator of underlying price changes. Since the Fed is often in the news and that is mentioned, I’m not surprised that some people get confused as to just what is being used.

I guess we should suppress 1st Amendment rights as Hillary suggests because there is just so much dangerous misinformation out here–from the COLA to dogs and cats our social media folks are out of control.
I do think there is an index that measures CPI for seniors that Michelle Singletary mentions in a recent column but, if I am correct, it increases the COLA by less than 1/2 of 1 % of what will be paid in January.
