It’s over, he won, but what is most important is not over

Why did 1.6% more voters choose Trump than his opponent?

Donald Trump 312 electoral votes. Republican Party 76,823,951 votes (50%)

Kamala Harris 226 electoral votes Democratic Party 74,312,576 votes (48.4%

Not exactly a mandate, but it is what it is.

No doubt there are many reasons. I have my ideas, but they don’t matter.

I’m guessing many people perceived him as a man of the people with an interest in helping average Americans.

What matters is where we are going?

Trump is building his administration, consolidating power by surrounding himself with MAGA yes men and women. He has control of both houses of Congress. He has clearly expressed his intentions on how he wants to run things.

Consider Kennedy as an example. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has falsely said that the COVID shots are the “deadliest vaccine ever made.” and now he will be in charge of Medicare.

He has set about seeking to eliminate regulations making laws ineffective, eliminating massive numbers of government employees, even major departments.

The 2015 Social Security Trustee said this:

TRUSTEE REPORT

Similar statements were written before this and every year after and each year Congress has failed to act.

I would have thought a president focused on the people would have made a concerted effort to build a consensus for fixing Social Security, would have pushed the matter to the front of his first term agenda, would have built a case for change with the American people. Instead the focus was on building a wall.

He promised a better, greater health plan to replace the ACA, but that fell by the wayside. Now he wants to cut subsidies for lower income Americans.

He promised to cut the deficit and debt, but instead added to it, partly by providing tax cuts, with little benefit to lower income Americans. Even in his second term, lower taxes seem a priority.

He is opposed to unions- hardly in the interest of many Americans.

He wants walls and deportation appealing to the xenophobic climate he created, but spends no time crafting a comprehensive immigration policy and border facility that allows compassionate immigration with protections as necessary. He never acknowledges the need and benefits of immigrants to our Country.

Have other president failed to act on their promises, on well known issues such as SS?

Of course, but here we have a man getting a second chance, having four years to develop plans and strategies, but presented nothing to the American voters, instead undermining our government at every opportunity and now focused on going even further.

Americans have embarrassed themselves.

First by being so uninformed, susceptible to lies and propaganda and conspiracy theories.

Second, by electing as their leader a man of low ethical and moral standards, low character and concern only for power and praise.

And yet, he was elected.

And so they believed, and so they voted. A Communist takeover, oh my😱
I bet these morons don’t even know what Communism is.

  1. Insulting people by referring to folks as ignorant and not knowing the issues is one reason you lost.

8 to 10 million illegals crossing our border and then telling us the border is closed was a major factor of course in the loss. In fact you folks encouraged it as a way to turn red states blue . Didn’t you lefties tell us we should not believe our lying eyes? Just Faux news lying to you.

You sent out checks and spent money you didn’t have in spite of being warned by prominent Democratic economists of the inflationary consequences. By June of 2022 inflation hit a peak of 9%+ . You guys tried to blame supply issues but inflation has persisted and you needed the Fed to raise interest rates to stem the tide. A monetary move to slow down too much money chasing too few goods.

Of course you lied about the demented one being fit as a fiddle. That lie evaporated as soon as you knew he was dead meat in the election so a Democratic coup replaced him with a real loser. The DEI VP, from San Francisco was the chosen one and spent $1.3 billion to embarrass herself and tell us no changes need be made.

Won’t even go to the stupid social issues you folks supported from pronouns to encouraging transgender boys to play in girls sports.

If you can’t envision the consequences of his proposals should they be implemented, nothing will change your views. If your concern is pronouns, ye gads we are in trouble.

You ignore what the corpse did in 4 years but the voter did not. The voter looks at today while you beg them think about tomorrow. Except you told them no changes were coming and she could not defend the illegal millions, the rise in crime, and higher prices for basic goods.

Were you listening when Hispanics were mystified about being labeled by lefties as “Latin X”. To you it is like pronouns and DEI. Just so silly. Only fools bring that up.

Did you ever hear your buddies call for ” 4 more years” . If it was so good why run away from it–what pages did she want to turn?

So much of what you guys touched turned to sh.. that even Trump with all his warts beat you butt.

Maybe you need to look inward.

  2. Dick Quinn,
The supporters of Trump can’t tell you any factual ways the ‘lefties’ ruined this country because they didn’t ruin anything. The media on the other hand is destroying the delivery of facts. One has to delve into statistics and examine things in great detail to arrive at truth and most folks can’t be bothered but prefer to hang on to the disturbing interpretation offered by the two extremes Fox and MSNBC. Of course they could also read much of what you write about everyday and get a pretty good synopsis. Kudos to you! Let’ us all realize the rest of the world has given up on America as a dependable ally. The likes of the deal to free the hostages held by Russia through the intervention of Germany would never have happened under Trump. He holds no, legitimacy in the free world any longer but rather is viewed as an undependable player on the world stage and one who is to be feared. Watch what happens over the next year and we will see where his isolationist moves take us, The tariffs will prove disastrous and the sad part he will continue to spew lie after lie and Fox will cover it all as though his bravado is saving us from some other to be created fate.

I can only hope that the failure is so stark that in two years we can take back the house and senate and stem his destruction before it is too late.

    1. What lie did you believe? The Russian conspiracy hoax? Of course the counter to that was the stealing of the 2020 election. To Trump and the Russian conspiracy folks I say what states and what precinctes? Two groups of liars.
Did you believe the 51 national security folks that the Hunter laptop was Russian disinformation? Why would Antony Blinken send that request to Brennan, Hayden and company?

Did you believe the 8 to 10 million folks who came illegally was a Faux news hoax? That the borders were closed?

Of course you believed the corpse was in great shape and ran rings around staff. “Deep fake” was the Faux News method of trying to convince us the corpse was demented. I fell for that what about you? I believed Faux. Silly me!

You know when you talk about the “truth” what makes you assume you know the truth? I get nervous around folks who tell me they know the truth.

I have asked you about some basic facts. I think the facts are true. You might tell us you believe in open borders, but the fact is millions have come across illegally and that fact doomed the DEI candidate’s election.

    2. When I try to pin Trump supporters down regarding the information they believe, they can’t point to any credible independent source. It ll comes from right wing media or Trump organization. I asked many just to list what they expect Trump to do and get no response. Even more childish is when you mention what Trump is doing you immediately hear that Biden did this or that as if it has anything to do with the future. Between that, the name calling and bullying I call it a kindergarten mentality – fostered by guess who? I did cursory comparison of Trump states and other states and their average reported IQ for each state. Want to guess?

Now avoiding answering questions is your expertise. Let’s try again:
        1. Did you believe the Russian collusion hoax?
        2. Hunter’s laptop was Russian collusion?
        3. 8-10 million folks crossed our borders in 4 years, or was it fake Fox news.?
        5. Inflation was transitory as we were told and 15 Nobel economists backed him up. Did you believe that?
        6. Inflation was caused by shortages and not turning on the monetary
        spigot.
        7. The corpse was in excellent health and suffered no mental health issue? He decided to refuse the nomination because it was time to hang it up.

      2. Now before I watch your Giants embarrass themselves let me give you my reasons for voting Trump. Might not be others, but mime.

        1. Making the effort to stop illegal immigration. Will they be able to have some success? I suspect yes, but he knows this is priority #1and unlike Biden he is not signaling “all are welcome “.

        2. Energy independence with emphasis on stopping our “pause” on liquefied natural gas.

        3. Deportation of immigrants who are scheduled but never apprehended. Government tells us it is 1.5 million. Also the criminal element must go.

        4. Too many regulations which act as a retardant for economic growth. This doesn’t mean no regulations, it means common sense regulations. This relates to the new green deal and the myriad of rules and regs.

        5. Not monetizing the debt so inflation does not rear its ugly head.

        6. Appointment of conservative judges. I’m tempted to say “packing” the Supreme Court which you guys wanted to do, so why not us. Just kidding although you guys weren’t.

        7. No emphasis on appointments based on gender, sexual orientation, or race. How about merit for a change.

I could add more like the student loan bribe that your low IQ voter was going to pay for but 7 is a good number.

Now you can agree or disagree which is fine. But the voter probably would tell you immigration and inflation were the main issues and both self inflicted.

Remember, folks keep discussing the past election because they rejected so much that was part of that administration.

I suggest you guys retool. In so many ways you lost touch with the average person.

You started out with defunding the cops and finished with the corpse was vigorous and ready to lead. Even low IQ folks like me could see through that foolishness.

  3. The U.S. Constitution is written with separation of powers within the Federal Government and also the limits of Federal powers over states rights. Donald Trump does not have constitutional legal control over the Congress or over the Supreme Court.

As in the case of all Presidents in the past, his policies will have limits checked by Congress and the Supreme Court. Your hysteria, Mr. Quinn, is misplaced.

  4. “I’m guessing many people perceived him as a man of the people with an interest in helping average Americans.”

I didn’t vote for Trump or Harris. However, I suspect many of the votes each received were actually votes against the other individual. I can’t see many Americans actually looking at them, Trump in terms of his antics and Harris in terms of her nothingness, and deciding to vote for either one.

Sorry, but while there may be some yes men and women in Trump II Administration, we have not had a mentally capable president for most of the past four years. Not sure who actually has been in charge in the Biden Administration. Also, remember that Ms. Harris was not the most desirable VP candidate for a second Biden term – many D’s wanted to dump her earlier in 2024.

In terms of appointments and messes, consider the Biden Justice department – where, for example, those who complained about schools were labeled domestic terrorists.

Both 2024 major party candidates are/were soiled.

In terms of Social Security and Medicare, we have known about the long term funding issues since before Bill Clinton was president – so, Clinton, no action, Bush no action, Obama no action, Trump no action, Biden no action. Looks like a bipartisan pattern to me. I don’s see Trump any worse than the others in terms of inaction on entitlements.

“He has set about seeking to eliminate regulations making laws ineffective, eliminating massive numbers of government employees, even major departments.” In terms of reversing regulations, that is obviously needed – long past time, especially considering the 2024 Supreme Court decision in Loper eliminating Chevron Deference.

“He promised a better, greater health plan to replace the ACA, but that fell by the wayside. Now he wants to cut subsidies for lower income Americans.” No, initially, he wants the extra subsidies be allowed to lapse – reduced back to the levels approved in Health Reform. I haven’t seen any other plan, have you?

    “Americans have embarrassed themselves.

First by being so uniformed, susceptible to lies and propaganda and conspiracy theories.

Second, by electing as their leader a man of low ethical and moral standards, low character and concern only for power and praise.”

It is not uniformed, but uninformed. Apparently, President Biden also lied about Trump, given his post-election comments that Trump would not destroy Democracy, and that “We’re Going To Be OK”.

Both 2024 candidates were losers, as they were in 2020 and 2016. For me, neither was ever good enough for me to record a vote AGAINST one, for fear that the other would think they earned/deserved my vote.

    1. I think I said the same thing about past administrations and SS, etc. As you well know regulations are necessary to implement a law. Sending a team into cut costs and staff by eliminating regulations they administer is not the way to do it.

Besides the real objective is to free up the actions by certain businesses and individuals, to untangle them from regulation as it were.

Do regulations that don’t work or are counterproductive need to be changed, of course, but in a reasonable manner with evaluation of consequences. The new administration wants government hands off to the max.

      1. OK, let’s talk about stuff you are knowledgeable about. The DOL recently issued regulations on Retirement Security and ESG. Neither of those followed the enactment of some new law. Both were simply the D’s desire to extend the reach of the federal government.

The first was a reinterpretation of ERISA-era regulations, nearly 50 years old. The second was conjured up out of thin air.

Neither was prompted by recent legislation.

That’s just two of hundreds of such regulatory impact.

        See: https://www.nam.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/NAM-3731-Crains-Study-R3-V2-FIN.pdf

Every regulation should be subject to the cost benefit analysis initially proposed by President Clinton in Executive Order 12866, and evaluated after five years and deleted if it failed to achieve the net, promised savings. “… Each agency shall assess both the costs and the benefits of the intended regulation and, recognizing that some costs and benefits are difficult to quantify, propose or adopt a regulation only upon a reasoned determination that the benefits of the intended regulation justify its costs. …”

Long past time to live up to that goal

    2. I wish people would stop comparing what we have now with Biden or Harris. That is irrelevant. The only thing that matters is the man who has been elected, a person totally unfit to lead any country. Forget politics, left, right or Republican or Democrat none of that is the point.

      1. I agree, I could never vote for Trump. However, I could never vote for Biden (any of the times he ran for president – he is an idiot). Same for Harris, who is a fool. Did you see her most recent recorded message – was she shit-faced drunk?

Why not compare four years of Trump with four years of Biden? My favorite quote about Biden is from former Defense Secretary Robert Gates, who once said that Biden has “been wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades.” His string of failures and mismanagement continues … Afghanistan, Gaza, Ukraine, …

Can you honestly say Trump is more or less incompetent (given his four years in office) when compared to Biden or Harris? If you measure results, outcomes (and not word salad or stupid comments), Trump seems more competent than either Biden or Harris.

That said, I could never vote for any of the three, or Hillary Clinton – all are, and continue to be totally unqualified as President, as were many others.
