They deserve a raise

Congress hasn’t received a pay raise in 15 years even though legislation allows for an annual inflation adjustment.

The current reconciliation bill would give a 3.8% raise in 2025.

Why not?

The personal cost of being a member of Congress is considerable. In fact, unaffordable to average Americans.

Living in Washington while maintaining a home and family in your home state is not possible on gross income of $174,000 especially when you have taken the risk of being out of a job in two years.

Don’t think they deserve a raise based on performance? Stop electing them.

Did you ever wonder why we end up with so many wealthy people in congress? Here is one reason.

  1. James2 makes some valid points. They come “poor” , seldom leave, and when they do they are quite wealthy .
Think of the corpse in the White House who has sucking at the teat of the taxpayers for 50 + years. Ever wonder why the boy stayed so long?

  2. The average wealth of a senator is $3-4 million, avg worth of congressman is over $1,000,000. Many had almost no wealth before getting elected. Ask yourself why haven’t they gotten a raise in 15 years. Next ask why they had to sneak it in the bill.

  3. I don’t think a raise is out of line given the salary and conditions it requires to earn it. However, what raises my eyebrows is that there is no shortage of people willing to take on these hardships to get elected and not only the uber rich but people it seems as being of more modest means. Not just for one term but the next and the next. It reminds me of a former 2 term governor of my state that bought a house upon finishing his second term and leaving the governors mansion. He paid more in cash for it than the total of his gubernatorial salary of all 8 years.
