Be careful what you ask for …

when it comes to immigrants illegal and otherwise.

What are the consequences of policies being proposed and opposed?

Tighten Border Security and Build a Border Wall

2034$160B ⬆️: 2050:1% in debt/GDP

This option would implement a few policies in an attempt to reduce illegal immigration into the U.S. Specifically, it would build a wall along the U.S./Mexico border, require a mandatory E-verify system for employers to verify the immigration status of individuals, and triple the amount of border patrol agents. This option would cost money both because of the extra resources provided and due to less revenue from those who are denied employment or entry into the country.

Provide a Pathway to Citizenship for Undocumented Immigrants

2034: $220B. ⬇️ 2050: 3% in debt/GDP

There are currently 11 to 12 million undocumented immigrants residing in the U.S. This option would provide a pathway to citizenship for these people, similar to an approach taken in a 2013 bill passed by the Senate. This policy would increase spending as immigrants gained eligibility for federal programs but would increase revenue by a greater amount due to an increase in the size of the population and labor force.

These calculations were done by the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget

Imagine what deporting one million illegal immigrants a year will do?

  1. Quinn, there are changes that can be made to the immigration process that don’t include the willy nilly rush over the border and any and all are accepted, including the career criminals, the drug mules and dealers, gang members and other assorted undesirables. I wonder if the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget considered that in the cost. I wonder how they could reliably factor in any of the costs of keeping the hordes coming.

No, if it takes a wall let’s build it and if it takes a sizable border patrol contingent; let’s put them there. It will be cheaper. If Jose or Diego want to come to work here, let them apply for admission. If they are alarmed at the violence and unrest wherever they are now, then they will be shocked at the violence in inner city Memphis, Atlanta, Chicago and other spots.

    1. You appear to be influenced by the political rhetoric. Only a small percentage are criminals, most are seeking a better life and we need them as workers.

Is there a better way, no doubt except it has been ignored for decades. We managed Ellis Island, yet now we need a wall? That is disgusting to me.

One person on TruthSocial says we need forts and the military to shoot to kill as they attempt to cross. That is where the rhetoric has gotten us. It doesn’t seem like a great country to me.

We need a process to both protect and benefit America.
We need a process to weed out the bad apples and it is in our interest to give a path to the others for legal residence and work and paying taxes.

The MAGA rhetoric is nothing more than trying to disguise xenophobia.

      1. Sure and we can find lefties who want open borders. I have a friend who says we interfered in the affairs of Latin America so we should allow unfettered immigration.

But folks like you were a big boost to the Maga folks with your support for illegals so when angry with Trump just remember what you and your buddies did.

      2. Well your support for illegal immigration created one of most important reasons for folks to turn to Trump. Without your support, and the support of your acolytes, the corpse might have issued his mid 2024 executive order years earlier not just his election ploy.

Do you have another definition of “illegal”? Who could possibly justify breaking the law and then calling those who complained as being bigots and racists?

I tell my lefty friends to keep on trucking with the foolish policies of 2020 to 2024. Let’s have more defunding the cops type policies and “crime is declining”,and inflation is temporary.

      3. You assert the border isn’t open? Do you lock the doors to your car and home?

An open border by any other name would stink just as much. (Apologies to Shakespeare)

Son, the last time we had a leak like this, Noah got hisself a boat! (and, Absence of Malice)

Here is the bottom line from yesterday’s New York Post:

Horrific new photos show the gruesome scene inside a Brooklyn subway car where an illegal Guatemalan migrant allegedly set a sleeping woman on fire and then calmly watched her burn — later telling cops he had no memory of the savage killing.

Surveillance images captured by MTA cameras in the F train car allegedly show Sebastian Zapeta-Calil standing in the mostly empty F train car, his hands in his hoodie pockets, as flames engulf the woman.

He later told cops he had no memory of the savage killing.

The alleged victim, who was seated on the train at the time she was set ablaze, appeared to require a walker — the mobility device clearly visible in the chilling photos.

Zapeta … told investigators he was drunk and had no recollection of setting someone on fire.

        How many more?

Replicating Ellis Island makes sense to me, too. You need to commit to becoming a citizen (you gotta want to be an American, with all that it entails), you need a sponsor, you commit to forego any state financial resources, you are vetted in advance for crimes, you are checked and stopped if you have diseases, and you are all but certain to be returned to your native country should you commit a crime before becoming a citizen.

Our current crap looks nothing like the Ellis Island my mother came through as a 7 month old in July 2025.

      4. Great response Jack especially the Ellis Island history. The murder in NYC is so tragic.

I understand that because they are a sanctuary city ICE would have a devil of a time getting this crazy man for purpose of deportation.

What a mess this sieve of a border has created. All of this deliberately done.

      6. The murder of the CEO was tragic, the murder by a 15 year old in a school was tragic. Every crime against a person is tragic. Would there no more tragedies without immigrants, illegal or otherwise?

Every major tragic event including 9/11 and the Boston bombing that were committed by immigrants were in this country legally. None of the school tragedies were committed by immigrants. The “see I told you so, illegal immigrants do bad things” has no logic.

Why not then celebrate the millions who are working for low wages in dangerous jobs and paying taxes for things they can never utilize. The ones who benefit employers and righteous Americans and who have been part of the society for ten or more years.

I don’t want open borders and I want to see good screening but i do not want to see xenophobia disused as law abiding patriotism.

      7. Well, glad you are not for open borders. No doubt you were furious 4 years ago when the corpse did everything but erect signs inviting folks over.

Your continuing support for illegals simply encourages the sanctuary city folks, the open border adherents, and the millions who would love to stream across but figure Trump will look askance and send them back, unlike the corpse and Harris.

We know , as an example, that this person would still be alive if the perpetrator had been deported like he should have been. We also know she is not the only one who would be alive.

We don’t celebrate the hard working illegals because they break the law daily by being here. We taught our children and now teach the grandchildren to obey the law.
        ,
You sound like certain laws are just fine to disobey and i guess others are up for grabs.

Guys like you are funny. You talk no open borders but promoted the policies that caused the flood to happen and then wonder why the guy you love to hate is now in charge.

Like the alcoholic who wants to stop but has a fully stocked liquor cabinet.

      8. I’ll go on record as saying I’m not influenced by the political rhetoric, I’ve never considered open borders a workable idea. 30 years ago I was for having employers do verification of status. That was in the days of limited illegals compared to the surge of the past few years.
You, on the other hand, seem to think that any security on the border is unnecessary and the only results are good for the economy. Why is there such a demand for billions to take care of the millions who wander in. I admit that a minority of immigrants are criminal. How much do you think it costs to keep a minority of illegals locked up for criminal offenses? Some for life. As for Ellis Island, that was people signing in, not running the blockade.

The political rhetoric you speak of essentially ramped up due to the millions who hit town without any apparent oversight.

      9. Not sure how you conclude I think border security unnecessary, I never said that and feel that way. As far as Ellis goes the point was to have a similar facility and funneling migrants through it. Those who try and circumvent a fair system should be captured and returned, no question. There was never an open border, never a week without arrests and returning or confinement.

  2. The election brought brother Quinn and his aherents a stark message. Crossing the border illegally is breaking the law and a nation of laws cannot allow that.

What other laws does brother Quinn feel should be abrogated? What gun laws in Chicago should be broken because folks feel freighted? Do you teach your grandchildren that certain laws are fine to break?

  3. Hey Dick – I suppose we should empty all the prisons too. It would reduce costs and increase revenue. Please stop the insanity of trying to make illegal immigration a good thing.
