Manifest destiny?

If you listened to the inaugural address and didn’t think- this sounds like a campaign rally, what’s wrong with this guy demeaning our country, misleading and lying as usual? If you didn’t hear a lack of civility, or common decency to Biden, if nothing about his rambling bothered you, what’s wrong with you?

We close the door to asylum seekers and open the cells to those who sought to overthrow our Constitution.

The road to American greatness? On the road to isolationism.

Withdrawal from Paris climate agreement

Mr. Trump also signed an executive action withdrawing the U.S. from the Paris climate agreement, and he claimed the U.S. would save a trillion dollars by leaving the agreement.

Withdrawal from the WHO

Another executive order signed by Mr. Trump called for the U.S. to leave the World Health Organization. The order cites “the organization’s mishandling of the COVID-19 pandemic” and “onerous” costs associated with being apart of the international organization as the reasons for the U.S.’ withdrawal.

When rational people don’t like how something is working they seek to make it better, work for the common good, they don’t take their marbles and go home. Children and bullies and the ignorant do that.

We heard about a wall, shutting out some people, changes to birth/citizenship rules, use of the military at the boarder, deportation but not one word asking to work with Congress to development a better immigration policy and process to our benefit. We heard xenophobia to satisfy elements of his base.

Trump promised to restore freedom of speech creating the impression it was ever lost or in danger, but that is what he does – create problems out of thin air only he can solve. If you have any doubt about free speech look at Truth Social.

We heard about manifest destiny (which means ordained by God ) and expanding U.S. territory like it was the 19th century.

Trump was elected because of the price of eggs and gasoline, a very effective propaganda campaign and anti-immigrant sentiment all supported by lies and misinformation.

There is no mandate, no overwhelming victory. But there is a good lesson on how effective manipulation of under-informed, frightened people can be.

How much lasting damage can be done in four years? We have to wait and see. The extreme is in charge.

  1. Wow, you are extreme Mr Quinn. You rant about the Trump pardons. What about the Biden commutation at 11:45 am on January 20th of the murderer who shot and killed 2 FBI agents in South Dakota. Biden pardons were far more extreme and extensive than Trumps. You have extreme liberal viewpoints. It is very reassuring Democrats wings have been clipped over the next 4 years. Plan for 12 years of this Golden Era. JD Vance will be our next president in January 2029.

    1. I am not a leftist, not even a democrat.

Trump is a demagogue, a bully and an outright liar beyond even your average politician and continues to be even in his inaugural speech.

He cares not a hoot for average Americans and has already demonstrated that with some of his EOs regarding health care. Do you actually listen to him? Beyond his rhetoric about immigrants, what do you find attractive about him? He accomplished only on significant law his entire first term- inflationary tax cuts that added to deficits and which wevcan’t afford. Do you like his policies regarding SS and Medicare? I guess not since he has never stated them or made any serious effort to address either. What about his great new health plan to replace the ACA – forgotten as soon as he was elected the first time. Beyond his boasting and strong rhetoric, exactly what do you find appealing about Mr Trump?

      1. What about the loons on the left and all their lies? Lies you believed.

You really should get with the program. The serious folks are not flailing around like you. They are busy looking at why they lost and figuring out how to win back the folks they lost.

Try reading up on the 2 candidates for party chair. Unlike you they have serious ideas of how to move the party in position for 2026 and 2028.

Trump is not running in 2028 so swing away at the policies but you just might be surprised. Business leaders meeting in Europe are looking forward to Trump as the corpse was useless according to WSJ article today.

Read Jack’s comments which sums it up.

    2. Exactly. They prefer to remain in the land of bitterness. I heard more from Trump in one day than Biden in all 4 years. Man is full of energy and a true patriot. Biden destroyed this country.

      1. Exactly how did Biden destroy the Country and by what standard do you define destroyed? I see nothing to justify that. All the economic data, the stock market are quite positive. What affected your life in the context of destroyed?

      2. Richard, It is difficult to argue with people who believe Trump’s lies. I admire you for continuing to try to do so. One does not have to be a leftist to understand that Trump is extremely dangerous. The sad thing is that many people who disagree fundamentally with the left agenda cannot see that the Trump agenda is much worse for the county. When the reality hits, then hopefully enough of the country will understand, and we can get back to rationality. We survived McCarthyism int he 50s, and we will survive Trumpism. History will not be kind to this era of Trump worship.

      3. Richard, think that my statement must have been a little ambiguous. It is difficult to argue with people who believe Trump’s lies, meaning that the people who believe Trump’s lies are not subject to reason. They believe everything that madman says, independent of evidence contradicting it.

  2. Al Lindquist:

Trump was elected because the loons on the left allowed folks to pour across the border and told us not to believe our lying eyes–you denied the corpse was demented when you should have invoked the 25th Amendment–you lost because you spent money you did not have and monetized the debt creating inflation that reached 9% in June of 2022 and then told us it was transitory and blame Putin or shortages.

You governed from the left in a center right country–you continue to use the term propaganda which is really contempt for those who do not agree with you–exactly what you did for four years–don’t agree with the John Lewis voting rights act then you are guilty of Jim Crow 2.0, thus a racist.

Want the border protected–folks are called racist bigots until Abbott and DeSantis sent you busloads and all of a sudden your thinking changed–damage done–just think if the corpse had addressed the country and told us the illegal crossings was a national problem, as immigration is, and all communities would have to take in the millions who were pouring across. Yes, believe your lying eyes, they really are pouring across.

Folks were called garbage because they dared to disagree–DEI invaded the workplace and folks were told the color of their skin was responsible for many of the social ills.

You mention the price of eggs and gas which was a manifestation of the inflationary mess your friends made. What propaganda?? Folks on the left had the opportunity to rebut all that supposed propaganda–the left controls the main stream media–all the major newspapers with the exception of the WSJ editorial page, Hollywood, and the TV studios. You even tried to exert control over social media by pressuring Zuckerberg and others as they recently testified to.

You forgot that millions had deserted the old media in favor of new outlets and that folks could speak freely on podcasts and other communication outlets.

“Under informed and frightened people” which says you and your buddies are informed–you are just better folks–you know what works and the rest of us do not–well, you had 4 years and as you say folks were “frightened”–maybe frightened of continuing on the road we were going.

As I have said previously–whenever (daily) Trump annoys you just look in the mirror and ask yourself what you did to help him along–you have a forum to use and if you justified the illegal crossings of millions (workers who pay SS) or tried to convince folks that inflation was transitory or that it was just rising prices, that the government printing up $ was not its cause then you paid a price.

If you weren’t honest and forthcoming about a man suffering from cognitive decline then maybe you have some blame. Folks saw with their own eyes millions crossing illegally, prices rising at a one time 9% clip, and a president who could not function at a level necessary. Folks were lied to and the seeds were planted for Trump.

    You reap what you sow.

    1. Even if everything you say is true, Al, and only some of it is, and even much of that is distorted and exaggerated, the cure is worse than the disease. Trump is a megalomanic bully, who has no regard for the constitution or anyone who disagrees with him. Certainly, the left has been out of touch with the American public, but Trump is a traitor who tried to overthrow the freely elected government on January 6. He now wants to govern like a dictator, with executive orders for everything and punishing everyone who opposes him. There is no greater danger to America and the world than this childish, impetuous, pompous, vindictive, selfish, stupid jerk. History will not be kind to him and the Republican politicians who were too scared of Trump to find someone who could address the ills of society in a logical, rationale way. the Republican Party did not let Richard Nixon get away with his antics, but lost their soul over Trump. We deserve better than the last four years, but Trump will only make things worse.

      1. This is simple. What is not true? Take what I gave and briefly explain what is inaccurate or as you say exaggerated. You can list and a sentence or two of why you disagree.

    2. Trump is a master propagandist who played on and enhanced many people’s fears with misrepresentation and lies. The most prominent regarding the border and the impact of illegal immigrants. He created a scapegoat. He promoted successfully mass xenophobia. Not once did he seek a long term solution, a modern immigration policy we could all benefit from. Just build a wall and claim they taint our blood, a claim that can’t logically just can’t apply to illegal immigrants and he knows it.

Inflation was the result of the effects of COVID, it was a world-wide event, not simply Biden. The Trump tax cuts and the stimulus packages by Trump and Biden didn’t help.

In his inauguration speech he lied about the Panama Canal, called for expansionism like it was the 19th century. His first group of EOs made it harder for Americans to enroll in health insurance and for government to seek ways to lower drug costs. Why would he do that? Why would he take us out of WHO or the Paris agreement? Is the US no longer part of the world? If there are problems to be fixed address them, don’t go running home. Every time, every where we seek to withdraw, to isolate, China will seek to fill the gap.

      1. So Trump supporters….even if all you state about Biden, immigration, economy has any semblance of truth how does electing a convicted felon who has shown absolute disdain for our constitution and by any definition is an authoritarian who seeks to be a dictator for one day help improve our country.

You are allowing yourselves to be led by your nose by this ego maniac and ironically will be the ones who will suffer the most in the end. He is a total self absorbed con man only interested in lining his pockets and the pockets of those that will do his bidding.

History most certainly will repeat itself and Trump will be remembered as the first convicted felon elected as president forever in the history books no matter how hard he tries to rewrite the narrative.

      2. I could never vote for Biden – not any of the three times he ran for President, he has always been a liar, plagiarist, and pig. He and his family clearly cashed in on his office.

I could never vote for Trump – while his policies aren’t always bad, he says stupid things, and needs to shut up, let actions speak – but his ego clearly won’t allow for that.

And, I could never vote for Clinton nor Harris – neither had the skills or temperament for the position. For example, Secretary of State Clinton clearly finessed the truth when it came to Benghazi, then there was her mishandling then destroying classified documents. Harris, on the other hand, was only selected because of her sex and race, she never accomplished anything assigned to her (voting rights, border security, etc.) and she covered up Biden’s infirmity, and, as the last person in the room for Afghanistan, she apparently believed in that haphazard, deadly withdrawal. When asked, she admitted, she wouldn’t have changed anything.

However, when it comes to not respecting our Republic (we do not have a Democracy), when it comes to not following “norms”, consider these items that are now part of the Obama/Biden/Democrat legacy:

Holdover acting Attorney General Sally Yates defying presidential orders,

Federal Bureau of Investigation lies to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court,

The bureaucracy (deep state), including many in Justice and the FBI, announcing they would resist Trump, and find a way to remove him,

Someone at the Supreme Court released the Dobbs decision before it was final,

Supreme Court members were not afforded the true protections they deserved in terms of physical threats at their residences,

Merrick Garland, became the first attorney general in history to train his department on a former president,

The first-ever FBI raid on a former president who may have had reasonable use of classified documents (or could have declassified those documents), while not raiding the house of the sitting president, nor a former vice president, both who had classified documents that they did not have any authority to have, let alone declassify,

Stupid claims of “Jim Crow 2.0” – forcing a move of the All Star game from Atlanta – but oh, how I loved it when President Biden had to receive the Atlanta Braves as World Series Champion

Verbal abuse of Supreme Court justices in attendance at a State of the Union speech

Threats to pack the Supreme Court, unheard of since FDR, constant undercutting the authority and respect for Supreme Court justices because for the first time in 30, 40, 50 years, they do not like the decisions,

Biden thumbing his nose at the Supreme Court’s rejection of his student loan forgiveness,

Total failure to enforce the border and immigration laws,

Undercutting the sitting president’s efforts to rapidly develop a vaccine for COVID, then, amazingly, once taking office firing individuals that did exactly what they said they would do – refuse to take the vaccine.

Stripping Americans of basic civil liberties during the pandemic, assembly, free speech, freedom of religion,

Consistent violations of the first Amendment by jawboning tech giants to suppress free speech

In terms of Trumps appointments to the Supreme Court, remember, it was Harry Reid and the Democrats who got rid of the 60 vote Senate filibuster regarding judicial appointments.

In terms of Trump lies, remember it was Harry Reid who intentionally lied about Mitt Romney saying Romney never paid income taxes, and, years later, when Dana Bash asked him about the revelation that Romney had paid a significant amount of taxes, Reid said with a smile: “Well, they can call it whatever they want, Romney didn’t win, did he?”

And, remember, it was President Biden and Secretary of State Blinken who organized the “Russian disinformation” memo, then lied about it during the 2020 debate.

The D’s have a horrible record when it comes to busting precedents and crapping on legislative, executive, and judicial norms.

      3. Great work Jack. Per usual you sum it all up with a lot of time and hard work. I really appreciate your efforts.

You know I was in Vegas at the Harry Reid airport at Christmas and thought of that CNN exchange. He repeated that over and over on the Senate floor so he could not be sued. He was a sleazy SOB.
