How should I feel when I’m called a “lefty?”

These days when I write something on social media criticizing the current administration’s policies I get called a lefty, a leftist or on occasion a socialist or communist. Why is that, especially given those writing don’t even seem to know what socialism is.

I admit as I get older and wiser I have become less conservative. Many years ago I belonged to the John Birch Society and the NRA. A person I still admire is William F Buckley Jr.

Conservatives favor small government, minimal intervention in people’s lives, self-reliance and individual responsibility. There is nothing wrong with that either, except the real world demonstrates most people don’t or can’t live like that and in my opinion never will. That concept marginalizes many people.

My curiosity has gotten the better of me. What do people mean by a leftist? I did a little research and found the following.

Now I am trying to figure out the problem with being on the so-called left.

Sure it likely means higher taxes, but lower taxes doesn’t mean the problems or their hidden costs go away. Government isn’t the enemy, it’s us, our society.

The term “leftist” refers to someone who adheres to left-wing political ideologies. Here’s a breakdown of what that generally entails:

Core Principles:

Left-wing politics generally emphasizes social equality and egalitarianism.

It often involves a critique of social hierarchies and a desire to reduce or eliminate them.

There’s typically a focus on collective well-being and social justice.

Common Beliefs:

Leftists often advocate for government intervention to address social and economic inequalities.

This can include support for social welfare programs, progressive taxation, and regulations on businesses.

They tend to prioritize the rights of marginalized groups and advocate for policies that promote inclusivity.

Now I wonder if America would be better off if those leftists never got their way with . . . Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, the ACA, SNAP and a few other things Americans rely on.

We can take care of ourselves

Would exercising individual responsibility with that extra tax money in our pockets take care of it all?

    Lefties–

    (1) folks that loot and burn our cities like the “summer of love” in 2020–remember when CNN reminded us of Dr. King’s words; “rioting is the language of the unheard”.

    (2) folks that told us we could not visit relatives and family in the hospital during covid, but when Rep. Lewis died he was given a funeral of massive size and all could attend.

    (3) rioters in the “summer of love” were given special dispensation because Black Lives Matter demanded it as the cause was just too great and covid was a secondary issue to George Floyd.

    (4) folks that refer to others they opposes as Nazis–Hitler–fascists without regard to their own opposition and fears of what hate language could do.

    (5) folks who burn cars–damage cars–defile dealerships of Tesla because they oppose the politics of Musk and others.

    (6) remember when Ted Kennedy went to South Boston (Irish enclave) to tell them how busing their kids to Roxbury (African Am.) and kids from Roxbury to their schools would benefit all of us. The meeting ended abruptly when someone asked; “where do your kids go to school Ted?” Madeira and St. Alban’s was the response.

    (7) after the above my father said to me: “lefties have a plan for you and a plan for themselves–the plan for them does not include you and the plan for you does not include them.” Sort of like when we were told the great benefits of illegals crossing our borders until DeSantis and Abbott decided to end that hypocrisy.

    8. here is but one example of the loons of the left–if you wanted to work for VP Harris last year the campaign requested you relate the pronouns you identified with: he/him—she/her– they/them–xe/xem–ze/hir—ey/em–hir/hir–fae/faer, or hu/hu. And they wonder why they lost?

    9. these are the folks who block traffic to save the environment–glue themselves to art work–tear down statutes they don’t like–rename schools in order to rewrite history–feel that 4th graders should be exposed to drag queens on library day.

    10. is New Jersey the state where a newborn’s birth certificate reads; male/female/TBD (to be decided)–folks who have adopted the “birthing person” as opposed to the mother or maybe pregnant lady–these loons feel men can have babies–anyone know a guy who have given birth?

    11. aborting a child is considered a birthright and don’t interfere in that person’s life.

    12. men in women’s sports is just fine for the left–transitioning is their latest cause and if a guy says he is a female then he is.

So these are just a few of many lunacies used to describe the lefties we all know. I could go on forever as these folks are whacked out and good for a daily laugh.

The programs you listed above are all bankrupt/broke and in need of major repair. Thank God I use only Social Security and that was not a great investment–but coercion is what it is.

Well, they hold those beliefs and they constantly want to impose them on the rest of us. Everyday they don’t disappoint us with more foolishness.

Rutgers recently released a survey of left leaners and 40% of them felt the death of Musk would be a good thing and 50% the same for Trump. Talk about sick puppies!

Did you miss the cold blooded murder of the insurance executive in NYC and then the lefties celebrated the death–all they need is one person on a jury to raise holy hell–these are sick people.

Never said no social programs–said they were all flawed and definitely broke and busted–Medicaid as an example apparently covers far more than health care in many states–you know more than I so at some point you might write about Medicaid but maybe in a balanced fashion showing folks what is included and how much people can earn to be eligible.

Taxes should be low and cover the expenses–just common sense–you want PBS and Planned Parenthood–farm subsidies–and college grads having their loans forgiven then no wonder we are $36 trillion in the hole.

Nobody talks about no taxes–yes, a minimal federal and state government–all the money for infrastructure and it will take decades to see progress as the left will find every snail darter and butterfly to slow down work if not stop it. It’s a farce and we all know it.

Why did Gov. Newsome of CA wipe out all the regulations for reconstruction in the LA fire zones? What message was he sending?

Why do you think folks leave states like yours and head to greener pastures? You get a bigger bang for your buck–just like buying any good and service–folks shop around and make decisions. At some point your good intentions run up against a fiscal reality–at what point do folks say NO MORE!

    1. So your view is no Medicare, SS or Medicaid, no social programs, no Obamacare, certainly no universal health insurance, every person responsible for themselves, low or no taxes, minimal federal government. Kind of a Project 2025 view of the world.
