A social safety net means government programs that provide support during hardship—things like:
- Social Security
- Medicare/Medicaid
- Unemployment insurance
- Disability benefits
- SNAP
- Public education
These exist in capitalist countries, including the U.S. They don’t replace private ownership or markets.
They are not socialism‼️
Socialism means:
- Government or worker ownership of major industries (e.g., energy, transportation, healthcare, manufacturing), or
- Heavy centralized planning of the economy.
None of that is required for safety-net programs.
When the MAGA cult yells socialism, they are lying or just ignorant or both.
