  1. Do you ever wonder, why, in the supposedly richest country in the world are there so many people on food stamps. There is no lack of food. I saw lines of people picking up over flowing baskets of food in the giveaways. Some sites were including whole turkeys for Thanksgiving baskets. Millions of school kids are eligible for breakfast and lunch at school. Where are we going wrong with this whole scene?

  2. SNAP rife with fraud – in eligibility and utilization.

    From Newsweek:

“… Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefit theft has become a pervasive issue in several states, with some of the most vulnerable families being left without vital food benefits.

    Why It Matters
Some 40 million Americans receive SNAP benefits, which are loaded onto electronic benefit transfer (EBT) cards that can be used at approved retailers and select online stores. But they are vulnerable to fraud tactics as cards can be skimmed or cloned, something several states are trying to combat.

However, the problem is getting worse: Fraudulent SNAP transactions increased by 55 percent between the final quarter of fiscal year 2024 and the first quarter of fiscal year 2025, according to data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service.

    What To Know
New York is by far the state with the most reported SNAP benefit thefts, with 151,000 claims made between 2023 and March 2025, totaling more than $80 million lost by SNAP users.

Second to the Empire State is California, with almost 86,000 claims and $38 million down the drain. In third place is Maryland, with 63,800 fraud instances and $24 million lost to criminal schemes.

On the other end of the spectrum, Wyoming has the least number of claims made to the USDA in the same time period, with only nine instances of reported stolen benefits. South Dakota and North Dakota have similarly low numbers—23 and 27, respectively. Meanwhile, Idaho, Vermont and Montana all have fewer than 100 reported thefts.

In New York, law enforcement recently uncovered a $66 million criminal scheme involving a USDA employee. In Ohio, three Columbus residents were recently charged in connection with a $600,000 SNAP theft.

In 2024, the USDA ended its policy of reimbursing stolen SNAP benefits. Congress did not approve funding to continue the reimbursements in the budget resolution passed in December. As a result, the USDA announced that states may choose to replace stolen benefits using their own funds in the absence of federal funds.

Jacknote: In 2024, that was Congress and President Biden who curtailed SNAP.

No surprise that you/others blame Trump for this corrupt program.

Next, my bet is you will blame Trump for all of the Feeding Our Future and other fraud underway in MN – fraud that dates back to periods where Trump wasn’t in office.

Clearly, MN fraudsters leveraged claims of racism and xenophobia in getting the D’s in MN to defer taking action to crack down on abuses.

    1. It’s people who commit fraud, the least of which are the SNAP recipients, not the SNAP program. Go after the ones who commit fraud, put more resources there, not try and save money by trimming benefits which is just an extension of the goal to shrink the size of government.

      1. Any program that is so poorly administered needs to be curtailed so that only the intended beneficiaries receive the intended entitlement. Trump and Congress made stupid COVID disbursements out of concern for exigent circumstances.

        See: https://www.gao.gov/blog/more-fraud-has-been-found-federal-covid-funding-how-much-was-lost-under-unemployment-insurance-programs

“… In our new report, we estimated that the total amount of fraud across all UI programs (including the new emergency programs) during the COVID-19 pandemic was likely between $100 billion and $135 billion—or 11% to 15% of the total UI benefits paid out during the pandemic. …”

But, all of that crap should have ended in 2021, once the vaccines were widely available where federal, state and local government shutdowns should have been curtailed.

Instead, they kept pushing out money unnecessarily, running huge deficits. In the immortal words of former representative Barney Frank (D-MA) as people abused the federal home mortgage insurance systems back in 2003: “I do think I do not want the same kind of focus on safety and soundness that we have in OCC [Office of the Comptroller of the Currency] and OTS [Office of Thrift Supervision]. I want to roll the dice a little bit more in this situation towards subsidized housing.” 9/25/03

Look at Medicaid and Public Exchange abuse. Medicaid ednrollment was 71.4MM in February 2020, at the start of the pandemic. It steadily increased until April 2023, where it reached 94.6MM, and has declined to 77.3 MM as of August 2025 (and continues to decline as they identify those who are not eligible).

They did a crappy job policing eligibility in the Public Exchange – we now have millions of people enrolled with $0 premium, where they have no claims! That is obviously fraudulent.

        See: https://www.gao.gov/assets/gao-26-108742.pdf

According to a different report by CMS, nearly 3 million are enrolled in TWO taxpayer subsidized programs, with an estimated cost of $14 Billion a year.

The acceptance of fraud by Democrats seems almost intentional.

    2. I cannot find anything about Biden cutting SNAP in 2024. In 2023 he and Congress curtailed the extra benefits added during the pandemic.

The more recent changes are all about curtailing fraud.

      2. Well, as best as I can tell, the idiot Trump and the current Republican Congress haven’t even gotted welfare programs back to the (in)famous President Bill Clinton who vowed to “End Welfare As We Know It.” and that “the era of big government is over”.

That is, the current initiatives aren’t even equivalent to centrist Democrat reforms of the 1990’s – 30 years ago.
