Presidents Day

Don’t let what we built and saved slip away.

Why can’t we have a president devoted to bringing us together for the common good. Forget Democrats or Republicans, forget the blame game. If we all don’t win, nobody wins.

This isn’t about one individual, it’s about a country of 340 million Americans.

Let’s reject the divisive rhetoric, let’s hold people accountable for the truth, let’s recognize that the United States is part of a global community and staying engaged is vital to our future.

  1. I don’t agree with thrums, never did, didn’t vote for him in 2016, 2020, nor 2024 – and would not vote for him as dog catcher.

    However, the Democrats candidates, Clinton, Biden and Harris were WORSE – if you can believe that

    so we are stuck with the lesser of two evils.

    Deal with it. America will survive.

    1. I only voted for a Democrat once in my 60 years of voting, that was Harris to vote against Trump.

      Looking at the larger picture, the global view even, the longer term view, what has happened in America, I cannot see anyone, even Andrew Jackson or Buchanan worse than what we have now.

      My greatest lasting fear is how easy it has been for one person to masterfully use propaganda and fool half of America while he doesn’t even attempt to hide what he is doing and still half America accepts his lies and other abhorrent behavior.

      I find that sad and scary. My naive self once thought Americans were better than that. No more. It will take decades, if ever, to recover from the damage being done.

  2. Agree. If we all don’t win, nobody wins.

    However, the better person to direct that thought to would be Bernie, Liz, AOC and most other Democrats, and a bunch of the Republicans who think higher income Americans, and wealthy Americans “are not paying their fair share of taxes” – with an eye on raising revenue so that they can buy more votes.

    The note should remind them that, as Kennedy said, “a rising tide lifts all boats”.

    You might also include some of the sayings of William J. H. Boetcker, often misattributed to Lincoln:

    “It is better to be a strong man with a weak point, than to be a weak man without a strong point. A diamond with a flaw is more valuable that a brick without a flaw.”

    “You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.”

    “And you cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they can and should do for themselves.”
