Attacking the Pope, evoking Jesus to support a war

Excerpts from New York Times article 4-13-26

Pete Hegseth, the U.S. defense secretary, has asked the American people to pray “every day, on bended knee” for a military victory in the Middle East “in the name of Jesus Christ.”

[This radical incompetent doesn’t even have the sense to recognize that not all Americans are Christian – he doesn’t even think beyond his extremist world]

“Leo should be thankful because, as everyone knows, he was a shocking surprise,” Mr. Trump wrote in a lengthy social media poston Sunday night. “He wasn’t on any list to be Pope, and was only put there by the Church because he was an American, and they thought that would be the best way to deal with President Donald J. Trump. If I wasn’t in the White House, Leo wouldn’t be in the Vatican.”

When he sent the post, the president was fresh off a weekend of attending a mixed martial arts fight in Miami and spending time with supporters at his golf club after negotiations with Iran had failed. He criticized Leo as “weak on crime” — an insult he usually reserves for Democratic mayors — and “terrible for foreign policy.” He said that he much preferred the pope’s brother Louis because of his support for the MAGA movement — “He gets it!” Mr. Trump wrote.

The president also accused the pope of “catering to the radical left” and then offered a piece of advice, to “focus on being a Great Pope, not a Politician.”

  1. Why don’t you guys say how you really feel about Trump and underlings?

I have been disappointed for years over the flawed people who wind up being candidates for President. You wind up with choice R or Dem on Election Day. I say the two parties need to get a better handle on who they run. The selection process is not working out.

    1. Trump has a history of abhorrent behavior going back to his childhood. He is selfish, irresponsible, obsessed with self aggrandizement, a bully and topic ignorant on all we have put him in charge of, including our country and our lives. He makes no secret of any of that, he flaunts it and delights in manipulating people.

      1. You’re not telling me anything I don’t know. My point was I am tired and disillusioned over the quality of people who wind up as choices every 4 years. With the number of people in this country, there should be better choices available but the two parties keep coming up with mediocre candidates.

      2. I can’t argue with that. Once we got locked into the party system in the 19th century it was downhill with few exceptions. The party takes precedence over the people. That is more obvious today than I can remember. So is the targeting the opposition for that matter🥵

  2. The utter ignorance displayed by the entire Trump cabinet is freightening. Of course the greatest show of incompetence is demonstrated by Trump himself. Truly disgusting making me really ashamed to be an American in this time what with a worm brain leading HHS such that the CDC is failing to safeguard our health, an utter racist Nazi leading our military, and complete suckups in every other facet of our government and now we start to see the result of all this incompetence. The loss of our ability to claim Measles controlled, just Friday the largest monthly increase in the inflation index since Biden first came into office after Trump screwed up the handling of COVID in his first debacle of a presidency; the loss of trust by all our allies around the world; a complete unpreparedness to engage an enemy that we have been trying to deal with for decades and which, thanks to Obama, had been controlled until stupid came along and tore up a very workable plan because it was the ‘worst deal any President ever made’ because as a part of the deal Obama returned 6 Billion dollars of Iran’s money to them but idiot just dropped $44 Billion and killed 13 soldiers as well as thousands of other innocents and we are now dealing with a world economy in freefall because any cadet in West Point knows you need to play the chess game through as best as possible before you move the pieces on the board. And who does he send to negotiate two real estate guys and a flip flop VP who climb over his dying mother to hump his dead sister. What a joke except it’s not funny!

    SUCH and DISASTER

    1. I feel the same way, even more frightening is the millions of Americans who support them while naively submitting to the lies and propaganda. I truly fear for our grandchildren and our country. Nationalism combined with a bullying egomaniac never ends well.

      1. Many of those Americans who support him are my family. Mostly the ‘Christian’ ones. And I love them.

Progress?… “I didn’t vote for him, I voted for his policies.”

This, too, shall pass. I hope.

      2. Which policies do you see as benefiting Americans and our country? Tariffs, higher deficits, healthcare, dealing with SS and Medicare? The short-sighted deportation of illegals we need for our economy? Nationalism, authoritarianism?
