Do the math…a not so genius idea for Social Security

In one form or another this theme is recurring on social media. It is absurd, but still gains wide support from grossly uninformed people.

A 1% increase in Social Security benefits would cost about $16 BILLION a year. The entire payroll for all members of Congress is $95–100 million per year. DO THE MATH!!

Not so genius is it?

Besides Congress hasn’t had a raise or COLA adjustment since 2009. And, there is no relationship between funding these two items.

Social Security was designed to be self-funded. As we fail to stay with that idea, fail to adjust that funding as necessary the greater the long-term risk to the program.
