Our democratic society is at risk. That risk has been created by one man and his sycophants …

and enabled by a uninformed, gullible population seeking easy fixes to their grievances with no consideration for the consequences to them, their families or their nation.

We Face our Nation’s Fourth Great Crisis

There have been three great crises in American history: the Civil War, perhaps the defining event in our history after the Revolution itself, the Great Depression and World War II. These events tested our republic and our resolve in fundamental ways, but the center always held — elections took place, there was a peaceful transfer of power and the judiciary was still independent. Our core democratic institutions remained fundamentally strong, respected by the public and our leaders alike. The guardrails of our democracy held and were even strengthened as we emerged from each.

As we go to the polls today in this most consequential of midterm elections, we face our country’s fourth great crisis. Because of misinformation, which the current administration encourages, age-old fears and conspiracies have created a sense of us versus them that is fundamentally at odds with a healthy democratic society. Elections are in doubt, the highest court seems compromised, history has been distorted, books have been banned, and dictators have been coddled while our closest allies have been ridiculed and dismissed. People are rightly concerned whether our institutions are at a breaking point.

I think the founders would be hugely disappointed that so many members of the legislative branch have ceded so much power to the executive branch, which has filled that vacuum with corruption and assaults on the rule of law, even undermining the fundamental right to vote. John Adams, who insisted that a republic could not function without virtuous leaders, would be appalled at the prevailing vulgarity and incompetence.

  1. The next 2 years will show us whether there are any adults in the room or if the whole place is one big asylum.

Trump is responsible by his own actions for this debacle. He literally messed up everything he meddled with.

  2. Obviously, our Democracy is strong, today. Voters spoke, as they did in 2016, 2018, 2020, 2022, 2024.

Let’s see what Congress focuses on in 2027 – will we see investigation after investigation, and perhaps a Republican Administration even more committed to lawfare as a response?

Or, will we see any attempt at bipartisanship?

Will we see the idiot ass Trump sign off on reconciliation bills passed by Democrat majorities, or will he use the veto pen on an almost daily basis?

Mostly, with both chambers in Democrat hands in 2027, perhaps we will get what Jerry Ford received, true gridlock, where the folks within the Beltway were unable to do stupid stuff? However, there is no support, no one ran on a policy position for reigning in deficit spending, and no one addressed the national debt.

We will need a massive market reaction to trigger change there.

Finally, will the idiot ass Trump want to go down in history as the guy who righted Social Security funding, or will he bob and weave and avoid that action?

    1. What happens in the next two years will tell the story as will Trumps future actions. However, if this vote was only or mostly about prices and inflation and not the fundamentals of power, control, and confidence in our government or if there is still no bipartisan actions, I’m not sure what has been accomplished.
