The creation of the $1.776 billion Anti-Weaponization Fund was announced by the Department of Justice (DOJ) on May 18, 2026.
It was established as part of a settlement agreement to resolve a $10 billion lawsuit filed by President Donald Trump, his sons, and the Trump Organization against the Interna Revenue Service (IRS) over the leak of his tax returns.
Extortion by any other name😱
Under the terms of the settlement:
- The Payouts: While Trump and his family will receive a formal apology but no direct monetary damages, the $1.776 billion will be diverted from the Judgment Fund into a specific account.
How Will the Money Be Used?
The fund is designated to provide monetary relief and formal apologies to individuals—primarily Trump allies and supporters—who claim they were unfairly targeted, investigated, or prosecuted by the federal government on political or ideological grounds under previous administrations.
Hypocrisy at incredible level.
Reuters reported in late 2025 that Trump’s second-term approach included at least 470 retaliatory targets and described tactics such as investigations, intimidation, and coercion. BBC also reported that Trump has urged his attorney general to pursue political rivals and targeted law firms and media interests he sees as opponents. A watchdog tracker from Protect Democracy says it has documented DOJ investigations and prosecutions that appear retaliatory in nature, especially where Trump publicly signaled hostility before action was taken.
