The Trump Administration’s proposed budget contains the following:
Medicare beneficiaries would be allowed to opt out of Medicare Part A. Medicare beneficiaries with high-deductible health plans could contribute to health savings accounts.
This is health care reform?
What is to be gained by allowing people to opt out of Part A?
Medicare beneficiaries with high deductible Medigap plans do so either because they can’t afford the premiums for a better plan or they have sufficient income to self-insure the higher deductible.
In either case, the HSA is impractical or unnecessary.
I suppose such proposals reflect the market driven, consumer driven, anti government attitude of the administration. Trouble is none of that works when it comes to health care.
