2021 Social Security COLA —- March update

Based on the COLA formula, comparing the average CPI-W for July, August and September 2019 with the last released CPI-W for February 2020, at this point the COLA would be 0.7%.

Needless to say, a lot will change between now and October when the actual calculation is made.

Update: The CPI-W index for March was 251.375 and for February (used in the above calculation) was 251.935. This means the outlook for a COLA is still very modest.

  1. I am not even counting on a COLA in 2021. Gas prices going lower every day, very low inflation; $1,200 stimulus checks coming for my wife and I. No one should be complaining if we get zero COLA in 2021, but i am sure many will
