During a rally in Grand Island, Nebraska, Donald Trump made the following remarks while addressing elevated gas prices and military action regarding Iran:
“And again, remember, with the war, it’s just artificial. It’s a little bit high. It’s a small price to pay for keeping the world safe, keeping our country safe. They can take out a city. Let ’em take out Los Angeles, let ’em take out San Diego. This is a very small price to pay, and it’s going to be over with very soon.”
Okay let’s agree the “it’s artificial” is referring to gas prices. On the other hand, what does that mean because regardless of the cause of higher prices they are not artificial. Perhaps a clearer minded person would have said “temporary.”
Now as to the second part regarding LA and San Diego followed by “This is a small price to pay…”
There is nothing out of context, no fake reporting. What has taking out US cities to do with gas prices? No rational mind would even mention attacks on US cities let alone preceded by “let ‘em.”
His idea of keeping the world safe is a bit warped because he has done just the opposite as evidenced by the US Air Force being required to run from the UK under threat of attack 3,000 miles from Iran.
This is the same man who in his formal speech at the White House immediately following the June 2025 strikes on Iran stated: “Iran’s key nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally obliterated.” and yet we are now paying a small price because that was not true.
And just as a reminder, “it’s going to be over with very soon.” But haven’t we heard that before?
A CNN analysis counted 38 separate occasions by June 9, 2026, when Trump said or strongly implied that a deal with Iran was imminent or the conflict was nearing an end.
